The outlook for the Polish fishing industry at the start of 2026 was positive – does it remain so after the first half of the year? We examine the data and check how it aligns with predictions from key industry sources.

From 21–23 April 2026, the Polfish team participated in the 32nd edition of the Seafood Expo Global/Seafood Processing Global trade fair in Barcelona – the largest and most prestigious event for the fish and seafood industry worldwide.

The 11th Fish Congress – one of the most important events in the Polish fishing and fish processing industry – took place in Sopot on 3–4 March 2026. The event was partnered by Międzynarodowe Targi Gdańskie, the organiser of the POLFISH trade fair, which actively supports the development of the sector and the exchange of knowledge between representatives of business, science and government.

In the fishing industry, public and promotional support is not limited to a single programme today. The greatest value lies in instruments that combine investment financing, certification, export promotion, and professionalisation of the supply chain, as these are the areas that most strongly influence the competitiveness of companies in Poland and Europe.

The year 2025 brought several significant ownership and consolidation moves in the fishing industry, demonstrating that the sector is increasingly seeking scale, greater operational resilience, and an improved negotiating position.

Poland maintains a strong export and processing position within the European Union; however, pressure is simultaneously growing due to new legal requirements, raw material origin control, and sustainability standards. This is a good time to assess where Polish companies are gaining an advantage and where they need to invest in compliance and modernisation.

Following the December decisions of EU ministers on fishing opportunities for 2026, the fishing industry enters another year with new restrictions and opportunities.
